Promoting menstrual health and hygiene is crucial for upholding women’s dignity, privacy, and body wellbeing, which in turn can increase their confidence and self-efficacy. By spreading awareness of menstrual hygiene management, it is possible to create a non-discriminatory and gender-equal environment where female voices are heard, girls are empowered to make decisions about their future, and women have opportunities to become society leaders.

Since menstruation is a natural process of most women’s lives, it is important to maintain good menstrual hygiene practices. Using sanitary pads during periods is a common and hygienic way to manage menstrual flow.

However, it is unfortunate that many women and adolescent girls are unable to access these necessary products, often because they are either too expensive or unavailable, particularly in rural areas in India.

In fact, the average woman will experience menstruation every month for around 35 years of her life, which means that she will need 20,000 sanitary pads during this period an average.

Embark Care Foundation taken initiative to support those women by:

PERIOD. (End of Sentence)

Me and my team work for a long period of 16 years for the women’s and girls in different villages helping them to establish there own small business so they can start a new life and there I stared feeling that menstruation and hygiene is a very huge and important topic for the women’s over there. So, we decided to work on this. When we started then we got hate and discomfort but gradually we became for serious on this then we established a small pad making factory in kathikhera village in my own house and after working for two years there we got the chance to be filmed by the makes or the “period end of the sentence”.

Fondly called the “Oscar Woman”–after the documentary Period. End Of Sentence, which is inspired by Suman’s story won an Academy Award in 2019–Suman is spreading awareness around menstrual hygiene. “In my village, periods were considered a taboo and an omen. Women never discussed it freely,” says Suman.
